Whatever The Weather

The Storm Haiku.

Darkness fills the skies
Lightning cracks loud thunder roars
Driving rain soaks earth

Whatever the weather the event is happening. Attending a UK Storm Gathering Symposium should always be regarded as a holistic experience.

We have drawn together a great number of competent, capable and caring coaches, leaders and safety boaters whose remit is to encourage, educate and engage participants both on and off the water.

The aim to deliver safe, quality learning experiences. The opportunity exists to come away knowing more about yourself; your fellow paddlers and the wider sea kayaking community. And perhaps be inspired to extend your own adventure boundaries.

We look forward to seeing you all this weekend 🙂

The Jim Wilson Fund

Jim Wilson

Jim Wilson was a friend and mentor. He was a man of wisdom and integrity. Jim had a strong influence on a great many people who guide and lead on the sea today. He was a man who embraced the world of paddlesports across several disciplines and who cherished for being able to introduce others to the freedom of paddling on the ocean or rivers with immense passion and care.

To honour him, a fund has been set up in his name with the intention of providing some form of financial helping hand to individual wanting to access relevant training courses. Individuals who may not otherwise be able to afford access to such opportunities.

In order to make the fundraising effort, we are setting the raffle ticket price at £10 per ticket. We have had very generous donations gifted from P & H Custom Kayaks; Kokatat & System X (PFD & Storm Cag); Mitchell Blades (Paddle); Whetman Equipment (Safety Equipment); VE Paddles (Paddle); Art & Sea; Rebel Kayaks; Summit To Sea; and Greenland or Bust.

Tickets will be on sale 7 days prior to the event commencing. Get in touch if you wish to purchase a ticket in advance.

Contact us if you have any questions, queries or want more information about the fund.

All the best.

Evening Entertainment.

The Entertainment Crew

Saturday Night, Feb 20 – The Weather Report with Jim Krawiecki and Steve Whetman at Anglesey Outdoor

An evening of wit and wonder loosely based around meteorology, the promise of lots of fun and thunder!

Start time 8pm in the main building.

Sunday Night, Feb 21 – Expeditions Around The Emerald Isle at the Ucheldre Centre, Holyhead.

The evening will feature two presentations. One from Jon Hynes and one from Dan McGonigle and Steve Miles.

The prize draw for the raffle will be held on this evening also.

Start time 7.30pm in the Ucheldre Centre, Holyhead.

“Sea Kayak Around Ireland” with Jon Hynes.

In 2015, Sean Cahill & Jon Hynes took on their dream trip around Ireland by Sea Kayak. Over the years kayaking and adventure had drawn these two paddlers together and their story clearly demonstrates the power of outdoor education and how people can learn through prolonged adventures. Enjoy an evening of witty banter, poetry, stunning imagery and stories from one of the worlds emerging Sea Kayaking locations.

“Taking On The Celtic Ring” with Dan McGonigle and Steve Miles.

On the 23rd of August, 2015, Dan McGonigle and Steve Miles took on the 1000 mile challenge to circumnavigate Ireland by sea kayak. The trip itself has been done by a great deal of people from all sorts of backgrounds. The most recent was completed by Mick O’Meara in a scorching 23 days. Dan and Steve did not set out to break records but simply wanted to do the trip as a personal challenge and in a quick time, weather permitting. They also wanted to raise funds to support the valuable work of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution RNLI. Dan and Steve accomplished their task and paddled back into Bullock Harbour on the evening of Friday 25th September after 34 days completing on average just over 30 miles a day.

Updates will appear on this website, via Twitter and the UK SGS Facebook Group.

Contact us if you have any questions, queries or want more information about the event.

All the best.
