UK Storm Gathering events are sea kayak symposiums designed for those wanting to take their skills to the next level. Although designed for intermediate to advanced sea kayakers, the symposium will also have classes suitable for advanced beginners.
The original idea was to create a mobile sustainable event that encourages paddlers to gather at a time of year when the weather can be all but friendly.
The symposium, which first ran on the Isle of Mull, Scotland in 2006 has also been held on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland; in Cornwall, England; on Anglesey, Wales; in Northumberland, England; and in Oban Scotland.
The symposium aims to bring together sea kayakers from all over the globe to celebrate the waters that we love so much around the UK. Activity sessions will emphasise skills, safety and seamanship development for paddling in challenging conditions, which may include surf, rocky coastlines and open crossings.
The intention is to draw upon the knowledge and expertise of respected coaches, seasoned expedition paddlers, established retailers and manufacturers to further our understanding of sea kayaking through workshops, presentations and discussion.
Each gathering is followed by a week of BCU, ISKGA and other specialist programmes.
